Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake needs to come to GOG
The original Heroes III did not survive on Steam. It survived on GOG.
For years the Complete Edition on GOG was the real game: Restoration of Erathia plus Armageddon’s Blade and The Shadow of Death. Steam had the 2015 HD Edition, which left the expansions out. So the people who actually kept playing this thing — mods, custom maps, Hot Seat at 1 a.m. — bought it where the full game lived.
Ubisoft announced a full 3D remake at Gamescom, due 2027. Snowdrop engine. 4K. All nine factions. Both expansions. Old community maps supposedly import. Gameplay is supposed to stay Heroes III, not a reboot. That part sounds right.
The store list does not.
Announced PC stores: Steam, Ubisoft Connect, Epic, Ubisoft+. Not GOG.
That is backwards.
This community already proved where they buy strategy games they intend to keep. Hot Seat does not need a live client. A map editor and 25 years of user maps do not need Ubisoft Connect. If the remake is really “preservation plus a new coat of paint,” the DRM-free store that preserved the original should get the remake on day one.
And be honest about last week: Ubisoft finally put Complete Edition on Steam and shipped it without the game files. GOG had the working complete game the whole time.
Put the remake next to the original on GOG. Same players. Same library. Same reason Heroes III is still alive.
