Andrius_Nod: It is incredibly refreshing to finally see a high-quality monster-taming game like Voidling Bound arrive on GOG. Given how rarely this genre is represented here, a release of this caliber feels like a rare holiday treat.
For the past two years, fans of this genre have had to exhaustively advocate just to get great monster-taming titles greenlit on this platform. While I am glad Voidling Bound successfully cleared GOG's notoriously strict curation hurdles, the fact that we have to fight so hard for the genre highlighting a confusing double standard in what gets approved.
I hope this release signals a shift toward a more inclusive curation policy that welcomes these games naturally, rather than making them the exception. Beautiful game!
Voidling Bound is not really a monster taming game as such. It is primarily an action platformer/shooter.
The different creatures are essentially characters that you play as, and through some light RPG elements you can develop them with different classes, abilities and skills. You can think of it as somewhat similar to one of those robot combat games where you have different classes of robots, upgrade and customise their parts, and then take them out to fight. Voidling Bound follows a similar basic idea, except that you have creatures instead of robots.
So do not get this game if what you are expecting is a traditional monster-taming game where you explore the world, discover different monsters, capture or tame them, and gradually build up a collection. That is not what the game is about. It is a very good game, though. I would recommend it on those merits, just not as a monster taming game.
